Garrett gave tests at the Douglas Pool to see what his pupils had learned during their Herald-Leader swim course for girls, these girls took the lead by covering the longer test routes. Swimming the length of the pool (105 feet) were Nancy Goodloe, Gloria Jean Harris, Gertrude Mitchell, Alma Jackson, Vada Rutherford, Ann Carroll Findley, Dorothy McDowell, Estella Hack, Margaret Arnold and Galatian Miller. Swimming 75 to 80 feet were Marie Hardin, Mary Carter, Mary Lou Latimer, Catherine Underwood and Barbara Galewood. Swimming 50 to 55 feet were Earlene Howard and Mercia Cassell. With the girls are Instructor Garrett, Leonard Mills Jr., assistant instructor, and Mrs. H.H. Rowe, director of Douglas park and city recreation.
